Zedu LED Down Light Conducts Case Study in Sydney Apartments

In an effort to raise awareness and demonstrate the power of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) when used for general-purpose lighting, we at Zedu LED recently undertook the task of replacing around 320, 35-watt halogen downlights with 10W LG LED recessed lights(ZD-DN10 10W LED Down Light) across the common areas and foyers of Eastgate apartments in Bondi Junction, Sydney.
The initiative is part of a case study we're conducting to provide exact figures on how much electricity LEDs save over conventional lights—in this case, it's halogen downlights.
According to our estimates, we expect to see a total savings of more than 65,000 kWh, details of which we've outlined below.
The installation of the LEDs was a relatively simple affair, and was as quick as removing the old lights and exchanging them for new LED lamps, which are spread throughout the 2, 28-storey apartment buildings in Bondi Junction.
Besides using less electricity than the old halogen downlights, the new recessed lights we installed remove the cost of periodically repairing and replacing the halogen lamps, which have a meagre lifespan of just 2,000 hours—a far cry from the 50,000-hour lifespan of LEDs.
Moreover, our LED recessed lights actually have a higher lumen output than the old 35-watt halogens, despite using 25 less watts.
It's worth noting that lighting usually takes up 15 to 20 percent of an energy bill, so we expect to see a significant chunk taken out of the apartment's collective bill. Our case study will span a total of 3 to 6 months, the better to see noticeable results.
